Welcome to the FARES Foundation

Non-profit research dedicated to the scientific study of humanity and environment through conservation, education, and responsible development.

Northern Guatemala's Petén rainforest is home to the oldest and largest archaeological sites in Mesoamerica. This area, known as the Mirador Cultural and Natural System (also known as the Mirador Basin), is referred to as “the cradle of Maya civilization.” This is due to the region’s importance in the Preclassic development and dynamics of early Maya society. Despite its unparalleled historical and environmental significance, the region is increasingly threatened by massive deforestation, looting, poaching, narcotics trafficking, logging and cattle industries. FARES is in a race against time and needs your help to reverse these trends, save this pristine rainforest, and preserve its archaeological treasures.

Guatemala, Corazón del Mundo Maya

La frase corazón del Mundo Maya, se encuentra unida no solo a la génesis de la civilización Maya, sino al origen mismo de lo que hoy es Guatemala.
